Over two hundred supporters attended this year’s Jazz Up the Hill, the Pasadena Chapter’s Fundraiser to benefit the Julia Scotton Jack and Jill Scholarship Fund enabling college dreams for deserving African-American youth in our community, at La Canada Flintridge Golf and Country Club in Old Town Pasadena. We are deeply grateful to all those who attended, donated, and otherwise supported this event, including visiting Jack and Jill Regional Director Tracie Thompson and Jack and Jill Regional Secretary/Treasurer Tahnda Bailey, attending members of the Scotton Family, Dr. Barbara Young for delivering such an inspiring invocation, KTLA News Anchorman Chris Schauble for his expertise and humor as the Master of Ceremonies and Auctioneer, and Renowned Bassist Donald Patterson and his talented band for entertaining us in superb smooth jazz style!

Set against a beautiful clear day with sweeping, panoramic views from the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, Jack and Jill of America’s “Jazz Up the Hill” gala on April 10 served up jazz, good times and solid support for the Pasadena Chapter’s Julia Scotton Scholarship Fund. Over 200 guests were on hand to listen to The Wave-94.7 favorite, jazz bassist Donald Patterson perform as KTLA-5’s newest anchorman, Chris Schauble, served as Master of Ceremonies. Jack and Jill of America is the oldest and largest African-American family organization in the country. With national headquarters in Washington DC and a membership base of over 9,500 families, Jack and Jill nurtures future leaders by strengthening children through educational programming, community service, legislative advocacy, and philanthropic giving. The Pasadena Chapter was chartered in 1956. We believe every child, with proper education and opportunity, can be a leader, says Pasadena Chapter President Charmayne Mills-Ealy.
